Mini Bi-Metals
« on: May 19, 2017, 03:23:56 PM »
Let me start with saying thank you again to JD for bringing back my home.

I have listed below two various links referring to mini bi metals.

The first being the brain child of JD, available at yoyobestbuy.com
https://www.reddit.com/r/Throwers/comments/6bsyil/in_1_hour_the_new_yoyofreaks_mini_bimetal_hashag/

The next being made by Ernie of general yo.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Throwers/comments/6c4u9e/generalyo_mini_star_2_sexiness/

I'll start the discussion by saying both look amazing, and I hope we see more of this.

I have a # on the way. The Mini Star 2 looks nice, I like that it's light and narrow. Will definitely grab one. I have a feeling the # is gonna be too wide and heavy for my preferences but we'll see. I also have a Masamini that's extremely enjoyable.

Some of the more recent Leviathans could count, they're not exactly mini but 53mm is quite small.

Failing that there's the 66% haymaker and the PAKFA from SP

There were 3 mini Derts!  The Baby and Eli have tungsten rims and the KC has titanium rims.  All are about 40 mm in diameter.

Are these technically a 'new' thing? As in the last year or so?

Nope.  The Eli and Baby Dert were made in 2007.  Most of the mini bimetals however are from the last year or so.

KC Dert!  It's wider than the other 2.  I can upload some more photos tonight.

Would it be frowned upon to have more derts made by another manufacture?

Absolutely, can't just start making these again.  At the height of their popularity, people used to as Russ to mass produce.  He always led his yoyos being handmade on the mill he used.

JD, any chance you have a DerTi tucked away somewhere?  The things I'd do for a DerTi...

Here's a comparison shot between the Eli and KC to show how wide the KC is (6mm more).

Thanks Mrciurleo! gives me a real good idea, when I did the # hashtag mini bimetal - I didn't ever realize the ring that the KC dert was the same way as I had done it. Always fun to see who some real innovators are - way before their time.

But unfortunately I do not have any DerTi's laying around - never even had the privilege of throwing one. Thanks for all the info :).

Anytime!   I was excited to see the hashtag with that rim design since Russ only made 10 of these, only 9 of which went into the wild.

i dont really like small yoyos. but mini yoyos are kinda interesting because i assume they will suck (and most do) but there are a few that dont and wow!

i really was super duper blown away by yhe 66% haymaker~ i cant justify the price but it sure is fun. def want one eventually.
Mess with the best, die like the rest~
