Dont do that greased lightning RUBBISH. Go to a erm.. auto parts store or homedepot. And find a HORRIBLE substance called "naval jelly" this my good friend will remove the anodizing off anything you need to. With in a matter of hours.

I used to do this all the time and I used to get paid to do it but it is rather simple.

Go to Dollar General and get the heavy duty oven cleaner, make sure it has caustic soda in it, also known as sodium hydroxide.

Don't go buying lye yourself to make your own caustic soda because it is very volatile and very hard to get a good ratio mix of water to lye yourself, I do suggest you instead use the oven cleaner, it has a good ratio that will not pit your yo-yo.

Go outside and hope it's windy because you don't want to breathe this crap. Remove all of the parts from the yo-yo and put it in a mason jar, put on a cloth mask to protect your breathing and spray the hell out of it until the liquid goes over the top of the yo-yo.

Wait ten minutes.

Remove everything, rinse it off with some cold tap water and buff the black tarnish left on the yo-yo off with a rag and some polishing compound.

Ta freaking da, a raw yo-yo.

A cloth mask is for particulates in the air such as sand or dust. Use a half face respirator if necessary that way you don't die!!  :-[

I honestly thought beadblasting would blast the surface off so you didn't need to strip it.
